ClassGraphic Santa Barbara's Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary is one of the most ecologically diverse water environments on earth. Interacting with its sharks in safe and respectful ways is essential for swimmers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers, fishing enthusiasts, sailors and other boaters. Students will learn about the various species of local sharks, their importance in the balanced ecology of the sanctuary, management of their population dynamics, their preferred areas, strategies for avoiding encounters, and coping with a bite should it occur.
