ClassGraphic The most prominent folk singers of the twentieth century, Woody Guthrie, ‘Sis’ Cunningham, Pete Seeger, Burl Ives, were also political activists among various associations with the American Communist Party. Consequently, the FBI, along with other governmental and right wing organizations, were monitoring them, keeping extensive files running many thousands of pages.  This course - using formerly secret files - will bring to life the systematic way these artists were subject to surveillance and suppression, and the relevance in today's society.
