Instructor Biography: Lawrence H Spann
Lawrence Spann, PA-C, PhD, is an expressive writing facilitator and a physician assistant at Sansum Clinic. He is the editor of several books including ‘Poet Healer’ and ‘Blood on the Page.’ He leads writing groups with an emphasis on healing, featuring such literary figures as Marcel Proust, Henry Miller, and Raymond Carver. He entered the medical field as a firefighter/paramedic and later completed a master’s degree at Duke University. In 2003, he founded the Literature, Arts and Medicine Program, which grants access to expressive writing groups for hundreds of patients, caregivers, and health professionals, provides a publishing outlet through a small press, and brings distinguished literary figures into the hospital setting.
